The Problem of Lent
Depending on your background, celebrating Lent may bring about strong feelings of conviction, compromise or just plain confusion. At City on a Hill, we feel there are three approaches to the traditions of historical Christianity: (1) there are traditions to be embraced such as the special celebrations surrounding the Advent and Resurrection of Jesus we know as Christmas and Easter; (2) there are traditions to be rejected because they conflict with Scripture like meritorious sacraments and praying to saints; and, (3) there are customs to be redeemed with a refined biblical understanding, such as Lent.
