Romans 8:1-11

Recorded on: May 29, 2008 | Speaker: Dave Bruskas

Overview
This section of the letter begins with the powerful statement, “There is therefore no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.”(Verse 1) Understanding the depth of this truth is dependent upon the key word, “therefore”. This word connects this text to the previous passage in which Paul agonizes over the painful tension of his life of desiring to obey God yet consistently failing because of his sinful nature. The entire chapter 8 of Romans is about the security we have in our relationship with God because of the person and work of Jesus.

So what evidence do we have that we aren’t condemned before God? According to Romans 8:1-11, it is found in the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit. He transforms us from the inside out, setting our minds and hearts on the things of God. He enables us to practically live in the obedience of Jesus that is positionally ours through the gospel.

Radical
The Holy Spirit is our guarantee that God will give us all He has promised.

Relational

Relevant
We are called to take the gospel of life to spiritually dead people.

Key Verses:
Romans 8:1-11
Ephesians 1:11-14
